Great Western Hotel COBAR reviews

1 Star Review by Paul Fitz

Walking distance to the RSL for a nice dinner was the best thing I could say in this review. A really friendly staff member gave us the keys. The front sliding windows had no locks on them. There were holes in the towels. The TV didn't work at all There was good hot water with pressure in the extremely old rundown bathroom but we felt it necessary to shower in thongs to be on the safe side. It had a good bar fridge and air conditioning. This was probably the second worst motel room I've ever stayed in, everything else in town was fully booked so we were relieved to get this room but if you have a choice, look elsewhere. With no TV we decided to go to bed early and get out as quickly as possible in the morning.

One night stay...one night too many. It was the last room left in town...last for a reason. The bathroom was not clean. The toilet, hand basin and shower were all constantly running/dripping all the time. There was also no hot water! To top it off when the toilet was flushed the floor drain would back up and overflow sewage. The charge was $120. Not worth paying $20 for it.

I gave this hotel 5 stars because of the staff and especially the Manager Ross. The motel rooms out the back were comfortable and warm with the best bed I and have slept in since starting my journy from Queensland. I understand this hotel is still being renovated and updated so allowances must be made for that. However i had no issues with any thing that bothered me. It's not often that the Manager would accompany me to ensure I was safe returning to my room late in the evening. Thank you Ross. Val Teare

Bar staff was friendly and thats were it ended. Accomdation upstairs cost was $90.00 which was outragious as the room had stains all over the carpet. Shower didn't have a curtain, drain hole in front of the shower was black/brown with filth and looked like it had never been cleaned. Toilet was in the same state. Heater didn't work, remote for TV was there but no TV. Asked for a dooner/extra blanket and was presented with a heavy weight curtain from another room when I finaly arranged the bed. One final thing the girl advised me that they had a puppy up on the floor where I was staying and could I make sure the make shift gate be closed if I went down to the bar....also the carpet area where the staffy pup was living looked like it used the carpet as a toilet. Mind you I didn't book this location one of my riding mates did the booking without doing a google search review. The old establishment must have been a classic in it hay days but not now unfortunetly.

Paid $120 for a very dirty and run down room with no hot water. The girl at the bar was apologetic and moved us to a different room but sadly the new room still had no hot water and the bathroom light did not work. Exhausted after driving 10 hours for the day we had cold showers in the dark and went to sleep. Do not recommend staying here. Was not expecting much but for the price hot water and electricity isn't too much to ask.
