Star Hotel Port Macquarie reviews

5 Star Review by McStar

Had the most relaxing stay here. We stayed in one of the suites on level 7 with a view of the ocean. Amazing! Staff are friendly and happy to help. The apartment was decently furnished, clean and spacious. Comfortable beds. Everything was also provided if you wanted to do things yourself - laundry powder, dish washing liquid, washing machine powder, utensils, everything. Loved it

We recently stayed here for a weekend getaway and it was great. The customer service was excellent, the food down at the restaurant and buffet was amazing and the beds were comfortable. We especially loved the spa, but the pool was a bit too cold for us to swim in as it was in winter which is understandable. The only negative thing I have to say was that the room was not dusted properly at all and there was dust on everything including in the bed sheets, which triggered my allergies. Aside from that our stay was perfect. The location is great as well as it's a walk to the boats for whale watching, the cinema, restaurants and shopping center.

Absolutely amazing! This place is our new favourite and we will definitely be coming back. The customer service was outstanding. We travelled to the Rydges with family for a birthday and had booked out a few rooms. Everything was perfect. The rooms are amazing. The restaurant is great. The pool area with that view is just beautiful and the location is unbeatable! The lady that handled our booking was so lovely and we really appreciate her. My girlfriend has a fear of lifts and this lady was so lovely to us making sure we were comfortable at all times. Words can not express how much we love this place and we will be back very soon!

2 Star Review by David

The two stars are for location and courteous friendly and helpful staff. The location is quite stunning with views of the Hastings river to the Ocean which is why the price of around $250 per night can be charged however I agree with many other reviews on the fit and finish of the rooms. The furniture is old and shabby which makes you wonder if this was a quarantine hotel and has never been rejuvenated. We stayed 2 nights in different rooms, the first had the same old stained and watermarked furniture in dark brown. The furniture was not good enough to get rid of on Gumtree, only a visit to the tip could fix this. Also looks as though the rooms have been flooded as the bottom edges of furniture and doors where swollen. The bed in the first room was OK but in the second the springs had collapsed and were sticking up making a good night sleep impossible. There was also a chair that was about to collapse and on checking it had already been broken and repaired with a single tek screw showing no regard for guest safety. There are plenty of cafes around, and the bar food is good, but the restaurant only has a buffet breakfast which is sub ordinary. Thats a shame as the restaurant has spectacular views and is comfortable and well set out. Despite the views and lovely staff Id never consider going back there

We stayed here in room 507 (two bedroom apartment) on our way back to Sydney from Queensland. The room was advertised for $500 per night, but we got it for $450. In all honesty, the room looks very tired... Like something from the mid nineties. The room was clean, but due to how tired it is, it feels dirty. My wife and I had stayed here before, about 6 years ago (before kids) in a standard room and remember it being quite nice, so it was surprising to see the difference. The pool also needs a good clean, as there is black mould around the rim in a lot of places, and quite a bit of chewing gum under the coping tiles. The spa had a thick band of mildew build-up around the rim. Surely this would be quite easy to take care of/manage with regular cleaning. The location is super handy being right on the river, with an abundance of restaurants within a 200m radius,

Old and tired building. Reception uninviting. Lobby dark and stinking. The room was large however old furniture since the building was built, yellow Gip board walls. Torn dusty old curtains and shears. Side lamp not working. Dusty old carpet. One dirty spoon. Dirty rinsed glasses. No plates. The shower door and frames were rusted at the bottom. The shower had black Mould. Toilet paper was cheap like sandpaper. Not a 4-star hotel. I paid $540.00 a night after discount!! Had stayed in Rydges Auckland a few years ago and had an exceptionally pleasant experience, hence booked here. It took an hour and a couple of calls to get plates. Needs full renovations inside out. Training for front desk staff and housekeeping. Hope the hotel management takes some action to improve. Best of luck.

Would have easily had 5 stars except for 1 employee who, in one transaction, managed to be really short, dismissive, and she wrongly advised regarding some hotel service, and mis_cut both keys for both rooms, and when we came back down and requested how is it that she cut 3 keys wrongly out if 4, her answer was: "I don't know I'll just cut you new keys." No apology, no thank you for coming back down. Best thing in that hotel was the restaurant / bar Zebu; best cocktails

Poor customer service received from Grant; rude, unhelpful, unwelcoming and bad customer service. Hotel was fully paid including parking but I had to park my car on the street overnight due to the hotel card access issues or they didnt include that access. when I complained, instead of simple apology and taking responsibility, he made me feel it was my own fault and he refused to get the senior manager for me on my request! Hotel is quite worn out and air conditioner is too old and noisy, in general not a good value for money. Not meeting standards for Rydges Hotels. They just charge you because of the demands due to the location. I will not come back again.
