BANNISTERS PORT STEPHENS PTY LTD reviews

5 Star Review by Nilüfer Haksever

Rick Stein is definitely the highlight of the hotel. Really great food, really nice people. The staff is amazing which is especially astonishing in these times (where the industry is notoriously understaffed). The service is good, the location is superb, the pool is a real gem. A bit pricey, but youll get the value for it especially for a quick weekend getaway.

We stayed for 3 nights over the June long weekend for our babymoon. I really cant fault Bannisters one bit. Beds and pillows were comfy, spa was gorgeous and one of the best massages Ive had, and Rick Steins was phenomenal. Buffet breakfast was lovely as well. Lots of light and healthy options, which was such a refreshing change from the soggy bacon and eggs you usually find at hotel buffets. Only feedback re: possible improvements relates to really minor issues with the room. It was super windy when we stayed, and as all the rooms open up onto an open corridor, the wind was getting under our room door and causing it to shake. We woke up a couple of times thinking another guest was trying to get into the wrong room. A door flap should fix this. Also, I have super sensitive skin and found the bed linens to be itchy. Admittedly this is something I encounter at every hotel, and is probably due to commercial linen services using industrial strength cleaning products when they wash the linens. But my husband didnt have this problem though. Overall, a really lovely stay. We cant wait to come back in Summer time to enjoy the pool.

A perfect couple of days. The hotel looks great in photos but it's even better in real-life. Staff are exceptional, the rooms are bright, warm and clean, and the public areas are beautifully maintained. The pool area is particularly special. And if you can, make sure you dine at the Rick Stein restaurant.

We booked the taste of Port Stephens package which was excellent value. Had a really relaxing 2 days with yummy food and drinks. Lovely walk along the beach right in front of hotel. Excellent continental breakfast. Lots of staff and all very friendly and helpful. Would stay again

Currently staying here on our 3rd night enjoying a short break with my wife before our first baby. Rooms are beautiful and the location is awesome. For those looking to stay please note that this is a pet friendly hotel and dogs are regularly around the pool area of the hotel. We had planned to lay by the pool today and read and swim however whilst doing so there was a dog right next to us constantly barking which made it un relaxing. I did complain to staff and was offered a drink but thats not why I complained. We ended up going elsewhere for the day and found some nice spots. As stated by staff member it is 100% pet friendly however not for me when youre paying good $$ for a relaxing getaway. I am an animal lover but if I brought my dog Id stay at the caravan park.

Dinner @ Rick Steins, 2nd time. On the Website it asks 'Is it a special Occasion?' Both times were a birthday but why even ask? Not a peep of 'Happy Birthday' on either visit, maybe a Woolies Muffin with a Candle not, ZIP. Moreover our booking was confirmed 6pm - 7:45pm. At 7:05 we were offered a desert menu. To moe the food was exquisite and the table service was fine. So we thought, 'what's another $100? Let's go the whole hog' ....... but, "sorry the next Diners are early" so what seemed to be a Senior Staff member asked "would it be OK if you moved outside to the patio on that bench table and have desert there so we can prepare their table?" Remember this is like 7:10pm. Why would they do this Rick? The audacity of your staff, the next Diners were probably VIP's or something. So easy for staff to destroy customers goodwill, where they don't even consider the hefty prices ...... but I'm miffed enough to write this review.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Bannisters, room was comfortable with lovely water views, staff were friendly and attentive. Rick Steins restaurant was excellent and lived up to expectations, the Cheeky Dog was your standard bistro type food so ok for casual dining, the continental breakfast was more than adequate with a good selection of fresh and tasty foods, the real disappointment was Julios Mexican, great location by the pool with water views, so much potential but the food was totally underwhelming, tasteless fajitas served in a breakfast bowl and rubbery unseasoned tacos. Bannisters is in prime location for a morning or evening stroll along the beautiful white sand beaches, a short drive to Nelson Bay, Shoal Bay, Anna Bay and stunning Fingal Bay. I would visit Bannisters again, but recommend to management that Julios restaurant be developed to its full potential.
