Artwork in Progress reviews

4 Star Review by Jenny

Good place to come in a larger group setting so you can try multiple things. Its almost like yum cha but not. The vibe of the place was almost like a modern, artsy, alternative white washed Chinese bar. There were all these retro posters/artworks on the walls, almost like you were in a London graffiti tunnel. The seats were quite tightly packed in and it was a little difficult to get around! This is a merivale restaurant, so expect merivale prices - the serving sizes were quite small (and most dishes were dumplings, so best to come in a group of 4, or multiples of 4). I tried the scallop and prawn shu mai, prawn har gau, wild mushroom dumpling, chicken and chive dumpling, and the cuttlefish fried rice. Apparently the pork xiao long baos were also quite nice, but the steamed buns werent popular amongst the group! The staff were super friendly and on it with the water refills and serving speed. The food was good, but serving size (relative to price) was probably a bit small / expensive (particularly the fried rice!)

3 Star Review by Laurence

The food portions were so small, I was a bit disappointed- especially for the price you pay. The ambiance was very nice tho and I would potentially come back for drinks! The service was also great.

3 Star Review by Michael Helms

$50 for 4 dumplings and 6 little fried entree pieces. Tasted fine but not worth $50.

4 Star Review by Mafalda Ramos

The ambient was really good and the food was also really tasty. However the portions were small, mainly considering their price.

3 Star Review by Andrew Crowe

Food and vibe was great but we didn't have the best dining experience with a 45m wait for our drinks and food to arrive. Noticed other diners that arrived later than us getting their food so had to prompt the staff to check on the status of the order. Might have been due to confusion from having both digital and physical ordering options. Aside from that though the pork buns and dumplings were really good!

5 Star Review by Justine

Delicious food and great friendly service. Empty plates were cleared very quickly. Cool space.

3 Star Review by Craig Leech

Dumplings are wayyyy over priced. Marivale can price a bit lower and let us stay longer

5 Star Review by Manar Alsaif

Great food, nice atmosphere, friendly service. Recommend!

2 Star Review by Sidney Terbrueggen

Super small portions, medium food quality, very expensive. You'd have to order 4 dishes to make it a proper meal. Wouldn't eat here again.

4 Star Review by Larissa Fellegger

Delicious food with a few vegan options! A bit pricey for pretty small portions though and the music was so loud it was hard to talk. But the atmosphere and decor was really nice :)
