Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour reviews

5 Star Review by Ihssane Zouikr

As a business owner myself, I have to take my hats off to all Sofitel staffs. They were really well trained and always put customers service at their highest priority. I have booked two nights via American Express Business Platinum card and although the waiting for a room upgrade took much longer than my usual stays elsewhere (more than 1hr), the reception staff (Sophie) was very good and gave my wife and I a complimentary drink while waiting for the upgrade. The room had a magnificent view to Darling Harbour and the beds were relatively comfortable (it can be better for this kind of hotels). We were very impressed by the quality of food presented at dinner. The taste and presentation were outstanding! We had the usual 4pm checkout but although I realised my car was missing a window, Garland did a fantastic job in explaining to me what could have happened and that they will get in touch with me for follow up. He offered two complimentary drinks to my kids. I could complain and be a difficult customer but from a business perspective they did the maximum they could and thats what matters in any business. So bravo guys. If there is one major thing for management to consider is to improve the communication between reception and housekeeping as the time between a request and the job getting done was too long in many instances. I hope this review helps you guys stand out from the crowd as you really deserve success. Well done team

There are some things at a hotel stay that are critical to a good experience. Especially with Covid you want a room that is meticulously clean, super comfortable bed and great staff interactions. All of those things were abundant in our two day stay. The decor and amenities are very appealing and show much finesse. The floor to ceiling views of Darling Harbour and the city will never get old. It is quite a treat. The food and service at the level 35 club lounge was excellent. All the staff displayed professionalism and a sincerity in their desire to make the stay a pleasant experience. The location is obviously very convenient. If you dont want to pay for valet parking there are plenty of parking stations near by. This was a memorable stay for all the right reasons.

Lovely stay, great view, amazing staff, very very good room service, AMAZING cafe, very comfy beds, it was modern and felt luxurious. We had a full view of the harbour and it was just great. I also LOVE the design of the building and lights at night.. We got a free pen, too, pretty random, but I lost it on the plane and now Im sad (Half joke?). We came to Sydney for the first time in 5 years to visit family, and stayed in the Sofitel 2 nights and a morning of our stay, and it was absolutely just amazing.

Our room was clean and comfortable with a nice view of Darling Harbour. Bed was excellent and there was even a pillow menu! Good selection of food at the breakfast buffet and all staff we encountered were pleasant to deal with. Didn't have time to use the infinity pool but will have to come back another time!

The staff at the Sofitel Darling Harbour were wonderful and made my stay excellent. The rooms are light, comfortable and not too small, there's plenty of room for your luggage and I LOVE that they have some hooks to hang your towel/coat etc. Breakfast was amazing, such a great spread and the coffee was delicious . The only negatives for me were that my bathroom wasn't entirely clean and the bed was rock hard. I love a firm bed but this was next level. On the upside, it didn't have a big dent in it so it was flat all over and they have a pillow menu so you can order whatever pillows you like. they're the only things I can fault about my entire stay.

We booked a luxury corner room with a Darling Harbour view. The view was very good from the 15th floor and the room was very nice with a comfortable king sized bed and large bathroom. There were a number of issues with the room however. Firstly, even from the 15th floor the noise from the pool that was many floors directly below it was quite noticeable throughout the day. Secondly, the noise from the hallway outside was very noticeable, lying in the bed we could hear every word spoken by the people in adjoining rooms as they entered and left (both to mention doors beeping and opening and closing), which of course meant they could hear any noise from our room as well. It is worth stating that once they were inside we couldn't hear anything. Thirdly, noises from rooms above and below seemed to be amplified around the window frames, so for instance any time someone above or below raised or lowered their window blinds every tick of the mechanism could be heard. Fourthly, to raise or lower the window blinds, you had to stand at the window, almost pressed up against it, given the Novotel is directly opposite the corner rooms, even at the 15th floor, if you forgot to lower the blinds before stepping into the shower there was a clear view into the room and you couldn't close the blinds without stepping up the window. This might not have been an issue for higher floor rooms, but from the 15th floor it felt people staying at the Novotel opposite could easily see straight into the rooms. From a value stand point, though the luxury corner rooms are very nice they are over-priced (we paid over $700) for what you get, especially in the mid levels, it might be different in higher level rooms. The price was probably inflated because of weekend + school holidays and perhaps a post-Covid surcharge (which everything seems to have at the moment), it would be interesting to see what prices are at different times of the year. We tried the in-room dining and after a few failures with the provided web page we were able to order some Salt and Pepper Calamari which turned up quickly and was fresh, hot and delicious, indeed some of the best I have ever had. We had the buffet breakfast which had a good, though fairly standard, selection of food. We made the mistake of going at around 9am which apparently was peak family time which meant the restaurant was packed and our coffees took more than 30 minutes to arrive and only came after we had to ask a second time. For the food served and the price paid, the buffet breakfast is over-priced unless you gorge yourself and make it your only meal of the day. I wouldn't normally pay $45 per head for an a la carte breakfast with coffee where the food was cooked specifically for you and would be enough to power you through the day. I'm not sure what price kids pay, but they definitely wouldn't be able to eat $45 worth of pancakes and waffles. Overall, it was a mostly positive experience, but we probably wouldn't go back on a weekend in the school holidays - maybe a cheeky couple of nights mid-week, off-peak season would be a better option - and specifically ask for a room above the 20th floor!
