The Republic Hotel reviews

3 Star Review by Ali S

Had lunch at Taylors Rooftop during the week with work friends. The setting is really nice with a summery, light ambience. The food is reasonably priced for what it is - standard pub lunch fare. The quality was ok, not great. My nachos were nice, however a friend ordered the fried chicken burger and had to send back the side of chips as they came out cold. Maybe skip the food and focus on drinks with friends.

Don't book your Christmas party at Taylors Rooftop. They significantly oversell the venue, its crowded, congested and unsocial. You can barely move without bumping into someone or walk passed the bar queue to exit or go to the toilet. We booked a table of 15 for 3.30pm and received 7 seats. Because it was so crowded our group couldn't even comfortably stand around cocktail style. I saw a table of 30 booked on one long table with 7 seats and no space, and a table of 8 booked on a low table with only 2 seats. No one seemed to be managing capacity. My only commendation is that the bar staff did a job at moving through the line.

I was invited here for lunch by an old friend who works across the road from it. I had no idea this place existed so it was a pleasant surprise to get to the restaurant with crisp white tablecloth and well dressed waitresses and waiters. Menu is small and unless they have a separate vegetarian menu, the choice was very limited for veggie options. There are a handful of starters and mains and some dessert options. I had the steak frite which was cooked to perfection and came with nicely cooked fries. The sauce was delicious and I loved my meal. Service was on point and the staff were quite efficient albeit slightly aloof. Happily come here again for a long lunch :-)

Very modern dining room with warm and attentive service. Starting with the bread, everything was well above expectations, the oysters were very fresh and the crumbed prawns were cooked perfectly (the pictures don't do it justice). We each had steak with truffle sauce and the steaks were cooked perfectly but the truffle lacked smell. Loved the mushy peas and chips. Wines were fairly priced and we were too full for dessert...

Wow what a dreadful snack experience. For the prices you would think its at least passable. I could do better at home

Packed on the rooftop, fish and chips were nice, the Asian dry buckwheat noodles were flavour less though. Drinks were good, would come back but it's very busy.
