The Sussex Hotel reviews

3 Star Review by Riley Lucas

Very welcoming and friendly staff, however food took way too long to get sent out. Like even during lunch service I don't think a 30min plus wait for steak is normal. TBH, Ive never waited that long for food anywhere! Steak was perfectly cooked although under-seasoned the same as the schnitzel. The coleslaw tasted like it had no sauce mixed in whatsoever. I feel like they forgot the steak but Ill give them the benefit of the doubt (that it was busy). By the time I went to enquire about the steak pretty much all the seats inside were available, whereas when we first arrived there were no seats left. I actually wouldn't of cared as much if we werent sitting outdoors with arctic weather conditions.

The Sussex Hotel is popular with the office crowds. Grab some pub grub from the ground floor and sit in the beer garden or head upstairs for some Thai food ina freshened up dining room. The pub food is standard stuff, not amazing but also not terrible. My steak sandwich was satisfying despite being past medium-rare and I appreciated them swapping the fries for salad. Food took awhile to come out as the place was full. The Thai food was also decent for this part of town. Would've liked a bit more chilli heat and less sweetness in the chicken basil but I'd still return to try other dishes. The stirfrys and curries include a small bowl of rice.

Looks great after the refurb. Decent beers on tap, friendly staff and good pub menu. Didn't check out upstairs or the roof terrace but the whole place had a really good after work vibe. Really nice to be sat outside on the street too, felt quite European. Great location next to Barrangaroo and if you fancy kicking on there are plenty of options on the waterfront. Will be back.

We had lunch yesterday at the newly opened roof top bar, what a great addition to the city. Very popular with all tables booked but our share plate came out quickly and was enjoyable, the staff were warm and welcoming. The whole hotel is looking great after the refurbishment and the roof top bar had a great vibe. We will definitely be returning!

Classic old style city hotel but with a nice Asian menu, good service and a good vibe.

This place is absolutely horrible. I played poker machines and yes they are designed to take your money but this is rediculous I didnt get one feature in $5000 this place needs to be investigated as a matter of urgency and rules. Poker machines are meant to pay a percentage back to people and this place isnt doing that. Stealing from the poor here to give to the rich!

The pub itself is super impressive. The staff on the other hand, drier then the Sahara desert. Credit to security guards. Cool guys
