The Loaded Dog Hotel reviews

4 Star Review by Richard Farr

Atmosphere: 5 stars Great atmosphere even for a Tuesday night. The locals are here having a beer and theres no hesitation for a chat and a laugh with them. I have been here on a Saturday night and it is a very nice country pub atmosphere. Temperature: 2 stars Cold inside Very cold. Its August A fireplace in one room which doesnt heat much. I dont really think its their fault as there are very few people inside (saving on heating?). Its countryside and were tough! Everyone wears a jumper and jacket. Eat rocks and toughen up kiddo! Food: 4 stars It should be 5 stars, but you lose a star because the garlic bread was the worse I have ever had in my life for $7. Warm chewy bread, heated in a microwave. Yuk. Toast it!!!! Dont nuke it The mains, however, are amazing. Top class. We had the rissoles and fish/chips. Excellent! Staff: 4 stars Bar person, probably the owner was very friendly and proactive. Well done. Knows his local clientele by name and has their favourite beer ready at the counter before they even walk in the door. The lady in the restaurant making the meals seemed upset and not very friendly. A shame. Prices: 5 stars Very well priced. Everywhere seems to be charging a fortune for the smallest meal, but this place has kept it real. Not cheap but not expensive either. Well priced. Overall: I would highly recommend this place. Its charming and gives a very nice country pub feel. If you are an overseas visitor, you will feel the true Aussie spirit in here. Take a moment to view the historical pictures on the walls from the wood industry in the 1920s or earlier. Tarago was the local Aboriginal word for country, or possibly 'a place between two bodies of water'.

Missed lunch by 2 minutes. Were abruptly told that the kitchen is CLOSED. Had pizzas that were cold. Publican - not very welcoming at all. Wont be back. Very disappointed especially after a long drive to specifically go to a nice country pub. Will stay local.

I didnt stay at the hotel but had dinner here. Of all places Im happy to find a vegan option. The vegan lasagna, it took quite awhile to come to the table but I think the lasagna was really good. Would recommend

Roads very bad out that way in August 2022 due to rain damage. However, food excellent and drinks ice cold. Well worth the drive so long as you go slow
